A study conducted by the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa's main political opposition party, has stated that Manenberg Police Station is one of the best stations that South Africa has to offer.
According to the study document, on-site research was conducted at eleven police stations around the country and scrutinised according to the crime rate, state of repair of the station, vacancies, equipment and resources and domestic violence compliance amongst other criteria. All the visits were unannounced.
According to DA Safety and Security spokesperson Dianne Kohler-Barnard, the purpose of the study was to "highlight the reality of the conditions of some police stations".
The document also aimed to identify one station as the "Best Station in South Africa", that represents a well-managed and resourced station that stands out in stark contrast to those that were found to be the worst.
"The station is spotless, the staff are motivated, and the insistence on the highest standards is paying dividends. No infraction is tolerated, and this professional attitude has the station working like a well-oiled machine" states the study document.
