The South African Consulate-General is in contact with Dubai's Foreign Ministry and local police over the disappearance of a South African woman in Dubai.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate-General was in touch with the family of Kerry Winter, 35, who went missing 12 days ago.

"Foreign affairs and its Consulate General will continue to render assistance to the family whilst liaising with the authorities in Dubai to find closure to the matter as speedily as possible."

Ms Winter, who has been living in Al Barsha, Dubai, for the past seven years, has been missing since 20 August.

Her neighbours allegedly saw her being assaulted with a baseball bat, then shoved into the back of her car.

The suspect, according to Dubai media reports, was taken into custody on 25 August, on a charge of assault. It was reported that the suspect was Ms Winter's boyfriend.

Ms Winter apparently informed the South African embassy and the Dubai police of her fears.

Reports stated that Ms Winter wanted to get a restraining order against her boyfriend.

Dubai police were alerted to her disappearance after her neighbours realised they had not seen her for several days.

Ms Winter last returned to South Africa in June this year to celebrate her birthday. - BuaNews
