State prosecutor, Juanita Swart told the Cape Town Magistrates Court that Maurice Cox, of Mitchells Plain stabbed Edward Robert Hulley on board the SA Agulhas while Antonio Adams, of Hanover Park, acted as an accomplice.

It is alleged that the victim was stabbed in his sleep following an altercation that may have been provoked by a late-night drinking session.

The vessel was en route to Tristan da Cunha and Gough Islands at the time of the incident.

Cox was remanded and a formal bail application will be heard for him on 9 November 2007. Swart did not oppose bail for Adams who left the court building after paying the R1000 required to his mother.
