Cape Town is to celebrate the final thousand days before the Fifa 2010 Soccer World Cup tomorrow Saturday, September 15 with a Youth Street Soccer tournament at the Grand Parade.

The City of Cape Town, in partnership with the Central City Improvement District (CCID), are expecting thousands of people at this fun-filled family event. Admission is free and the first soccer matches are to start at 10am. A total of 26 teams from across the Cape Town metropolitan area will be in action on the five playing fields in fast-paced matches lasting 15 minutes.

All nine host cities in South Africa will stage events on the day.

Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille is expected to visit the tournament at around 11h30, watch games and meet players.

The Grand Parade will be formed into a sports arena with playing courts, pavilions for spectators, an entertainment stage, as well as a dedicated area for children with jumping castles and other activities.

Various NGOs as well as other role players will be brought together in a special soccer tournament to mark the 1000 days milestone event. Most of the participants will be people who have lived on the street but who have managed to turn their lives around.

Apart from the soccer tournament, live stage entertainment by established as well as emerging artists will start at 12.30pm. The programme includes singing, rapping and gum boot dancing amongst others.

The specially enclosed 'Come and Play' with jumping castles and other children's entertainment will open at 11am.

Good Hope FM is to do an outside broadcast of its Saturday afternoon show from the Parade.
