Many matriculants were angry at having to rewrite one of their final examination papers on Friday, 23rd November 2007. The rewrite came about as a result of a leak that emanated from SACS High School in Newlands last month.

On Wednesday, 10th October 2007, invigilators opened the English First Language Higher Grade Paper 2 in error which was due to be written the following day. At the time Brian Schreuder, head of Education, Planning and Development at the Western Cape Education Department emphasised that none of the exam scripts had been given out to the learners.

However, deparment officials said that the leak had spread to other schools and they had no choice but to set a new exam.
