Two children, aged 3 months and 8 years, were injured in an accident in Grasmere Street, Athlone when they were involved in a 3 car collision on Saturday (29 Sept 2007).

The accident occurred when the vehicle travelling in front stopped suddenly. The drivers of the two following vehicles were not able to react in time and the vehicles collided.

Both children suffered minor cuts and bruises and were taken to hospital. Neither child was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Another person who was injured in the accident after he went through a windshield refused to go to hospital and assured paramedics that he would visit a local doctor.

Derrick Banks, the spokesperson for ER24, stressed the importance of children and passengers wearing safety belts as they travel.
