A 25-year old man from Langa is in a serious condition at Tygerberg Hospital, after almost being electrocuted two weeks ago.

For some unknown reason, Lindikhaya Buyiselo threw a wire over the Athlone/Philippi high voltage line which supplies electricity to thousands of residents in the area.

According to Ted Brander, a senior superintendent at the City of Cape Town's Electricity Department, this caused the power line to trip, resulting in R15 000 worth of damage to the overhead conductor.

Buyiselo sustained third degree burns to 40% of his body and is still in intensive care at Tygerberg Hospital.

"The City warns residents not to tamper with high voltage overhead lines for any purpose whatsoever. These lines carry thousands of volts of live electricity currents and any contact can be as deadly as being hit by lightning," says Brander.
