Cape Town's City Hall has witnessed many epoch-making events including former President Nelson Mandela, delivering his first public speech from its balcony, after his release from prison and, on Monday (29 October), it will again be the focus of the City's joy and celebration when the Springboks display the William Web Ellis trophy from its balcony.

Well before their arrival, entertainers on the Grand Parade will be adding to the conviviality of the occasion and contributing to the mood of what is going to be a rapturous welcome for the team.

At 11:15 the team meets the Premier of the Western Cape, Ebrahim Rasool, and the Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Helen Zille, in the City Hall.

Fifteen minutes later, supporters gathered on the Grand Parade and in Darling Street will get their first glimpse of the World Cup winning team and the trophy.

At noon the team and accompanying dignitaries will board a roofless bus that will drive along Darling Street turning right into Adderley Street and it will then follow this route through the CBD:

* Up Strand and left into Long Street;
* At the end of Long Street, turn right into Buitensingel;
* Up Buitensingel and turn right into Loop Street;
* Down Loop Street and turn right into Hans Strijdom;
* Along Hans Strijdom before turning left into Heerengracht;
* Along the Heerengracht and turn right into Hertzog Boulevard;

At 13: 15 the bus will travel down Hertzog Boulevard before leaving the CBD via the M3 en route to Main Road, Rondebosch and the SA Rugby Headquarters at Newlands, where captain John Smit will hand over the trophy to SA Rugby for safe keeping.

* Please note that the route schedule contained in the article on thefront page of Die Burger of Wednesday, 24 October is incorrect.
