Westridge Yankees softballers were dealt a blow when their South African catcher, Cindy Jeftha, was concussed and sustained a minor neck injury, during a Western Province Super League match at Turfhall Stadium in Crawford on Sunday.

Jeftha was rushed to Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Pinelands where she is undergoing tests, after being stabilised by paramedics at the softball venue.

She is expected to be out of action for at least a fortnight.

But this should not affect her chances of being included in the WP side that is expected to be finalised soon for the inter-provincial championship next March.

The SA catcher came off worse when she collided with her first-base fielder, Rozanne Ohlsson, when they raced to catch a fly-hit in the foul-ball area.

Ohlsson held the catch, but her knee struck Jeftha behind the head as they fell to the ground.

Jeftha was knocked cold and the paramedics were immediately called to stabilise her.

The incident delayed play in the match between Yankees and Battswood for 45 minutes. Yankees went on to win 8-2.

This win followed Yankees' 5-3 defeat to Falcons-SAP in a first round decider on Saturday. The result sees the archrivals level on 12 points, after the completion of the first round.

An outfield hit by Nicky Jones accounted for two invaluable RBIs that assured the win in the fifth inning. Earlier, Falcons' Celeste Marks, batting 3-3, hit in two vital runs off Almarie Kannemeyer.

Jones fanned four batters and came under pressure for the first time when Yankees' Glynnis Koopman, 2-2, hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
