Joe Slovo residents lodge formal objections to forced removals

Hundreds of residents of the Joe Slovo area near Langa lodged formal objections to their impending forced removals. The residents are objecting to their proposed eviction to Delft in a bid to make way for the N2 Gateway development.

The residents gathered outside the Cape High Court on Tuesday and had individual forms were processed by lawyers before being submitted to court officials. This came after Cape High Court judge, John Hlophe said that he would hear an argument on why he should not make a final eviction order against the residents.

Earlier this month early morning traffic on the N2 was brought to a standstill after protesters clashed with police in regards to the forced removals.

Housing Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, and the developer, Thembulisha have since then submitted an application at the court to have the residents evicted.
