City cautions against Housing Land scams

It has come to the attention of the City of Cape Town that there are companies/organisations claiming to have access to Council-owned land for housing development.

These companies/organisations are allegedly soliciting and accepting money from members of the public - ostensibly as payment for the purported housing products/opportunities.

The Council wishes to unambiguously place on record that it has not appointed or authorised any company or organisation to sell housing products on its behalf and cautions all communities to take cognizance of this.

No process of the Council will, at any time, involve the upfront collection of monies from communities i.e. before services have been rendered.

The Council does not support or endorse any actions on the part of entities who act in the above manner and accordingly cautions members of the public not to participate in such schemes which involve promises and cash collection - as this may lead to them suffering financial loss and subsequent hardship.

Members of the public are also encouraged to report suspicious property offerings from companies/organisations acting in the above manner to the Housing Anti-Corruption Unit on 0800 204 401.
